Frances Elinor Andrews, extraordinary woman, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on June 30, 2012. She was born in Muskegon July 16, 1910, to Roy E. and Helen E. (Finch) Ashley. After graduation from Muskegon High School in 1928, Frances attended Muskegon Junior College, continuing to Michigan State College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology in 1932. Thereafter she was employed as instructor in bacteriology and physiology at Pratt Technical College in New York City. Fran married Robert D. Andrews, also of Muskegon, on July 1, 1933. She was employed as a Medical Technologist at Hackley Hospital laboratory from 1957 through 1975. She qualified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists: MT(ASCP), in 1958. Fran was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ of Muskegon, where she served on its Board of Christian Education. She had served on the Hume Home Board, was involved in community mental health and child guidance and was an active member of the Muskegon YWCA and the Muskegon Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a member of Chapter Y of P.E.O. and Friends of Hackley Library, and served many years as a volunteer for Hospice and other organizations. SURVIVORS Children, Susan M. (John) Kurtz, of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Robert D. (Mary Anne) Andrews, Jr., of Ludington, MI, and Timothy S. (Janet) Andrews, of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Heins, Erich (Chris) Heins, Martha (Dan) Shissler, Peter (Marilu) Kurtz, Kathryn Kurtz, Daniel (Jill) Kurtz, David (Kathryn) Kurtz, Stacey (Dan) Ramsey, Robert D. Andrews III, Mark H. Andrews, and Ashley Andrews; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Robert E. Ashley of Sarasota FL; many nieces and nephews and other dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert, her daughter Jane E. Heins, one brother and two sisters.
