Floyd Weddle was a man who devoted his life to helping others. From the Red Cross to the Blue Cross, Floyds golden heart touched so many of us. He was a longtime health professional, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Floyds story began on a hot summer day in 1913, in the little town of Kiowa, Kansas. Those were times of great change in this country, which saw Woodrow Wilson become president, and the creation of the Federal Income Tax. On August 23, 1913, Lige and Myrtle (Davis) Weddle celebrated the birth of a baby boy, a son they named Floyd, who joined his four brothers. When his country began fighting World War II, Floyd enlisted in the Army Air Corps in February of 1943, serving in the weather service. He also met a wonderful woman named Lucille Bullock, and quickly fell in love with her. So when he was on leave, he and his beloved Lucille were married, on June 23, 1944, beginning so many wonderful years together. After he was discharged, Floyd returned to Lucille, and the reunited newlyweds settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Floyd found a position as the Business Manager for Butterworth Hospital, the beginning of a long career in the Michigan heath field. He later served as the Auditor of General, Mental and Specialty Hospitals for Michigan Blue Cross in Detroit, the Assistant Administrator and Business Manager of Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, and the Administrator of Allegan General Hospital. Eventually he went to work as the Medical Auditor of Medicaid Providers for the Michigan Department of Public Health in Lansing. If all that werent enough, Floyd also found time to serve on a number of boards and committees over the years. He was a past president of the Southwest Michigan Hospital Council, and served on many committees for the Michigan Hospital Association in Lansing, before retiring in 1976. Floyds personal life was even more rewarding for him, though. He was the proud father of three fine children, his son Robert, and daughters Barbara and Jane, who made their dad so thrilled. When his grandkids and great-grandkids arrived, Floyd couldnt have been more pleased, as well. Floyds beloved Lucille sadly died in 1995, but he persevered thanks to his family and his faith. Floyd was a good Christian man, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Muskegon. Eventually he went to live at the Hume House assisted living in Muskegon, close to his daughter Barbara and her family. God called Floyd home on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the age of 94. Floyd was a wonderful man, who lived a long and wonderful life, a life devoted to helping others. From the Red Cross to the Blue Cross, Floyds golden heart touched so many people, none more than his beloved family, who carry his love and memory with them today. He will be greatly missed. Floyd is survived by 1 son, Robert F. (Brenda) Weddle of Bartlett, TN; 2 daughters, Barbara (Donald) Weddle Boven of Norton Shores & Jane (John) Weddle Pluchino of Kansas City, MO; 8 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren.
