Flossie Hansen was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was a proud and hardworking woman who enjoyed life and her family was her treasure. Flossie was born to Clyde and Nellie Leonard on July 17, 1915 in Millerton a small town in Mason County, Michigan. Flossie was the seventh of eight children; she grew up with five brothers and two sisters. Her father worked at the pickle factory and managed the Dance Hall at Round Lake, and her mother was a home care aide and a fantastic cook. Flossie attended Elementary School in Millerton. At the age of thirteen her father who she dearly loved passed away and the family soon had to sell the farm. Flossie moved to Muskegon and lived with her sister and attended school. However her soon became homesick and returned to Millerton. Flossie was glad to see her family and childhood friends, and she enjoyed going to town dances. She was at a gathering in Fountain, Michigan when she met Charles Hansen. They began dating and soon fell in love. Flossie then came back to Muskegon and was hired at a board house. Charles also moved to Muskegon and was hired at Norge. Flossie was twenty-two years old when she and Charles were united in marriage on September 18, 1937. They were blessed with four children: Charles, Ruth Ann, Kristi, and Mark. Flossie was a devoted mother. She was proud of her children, and she always encouraged them to pursue their ambitions. She kept a wonderful house and was an excellent cook and canned vegetable and fruit that Charles grew in their large garden. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed many of her own and childrens clothes. Flossie was also a great entertainer. Whether she was having friends over for a dinner party or planning a family vacation, she always knew how to have a good time. When the kids were a little older, Flossie began working as a home care aide. Over the years she cared for many ill and dying family members and friends. Flossie was an active member of her community. She participated in the PTA and other school-related activities, such as Road Patrol. Flossie was a long time member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Guild. Flossie was known for her creative personality. She was a great improviser, and she had a knack with arts and crafts. Every few years she held a yard sale, which was always a success. She could sell anything out in the front yard. One of her favorite pastime was the game Bunco. She played with the E. Broadway Bunco Club for thirty-eight years. In later years Flossie was thrilled to see her family grow with the blessing of four grandchildren. She was happiest when everyone was together under one roof. Thats why Flossie loved Christmas.
