Fidelis R. O'Toole, age 95, died peacefully on August 8, 2008. She was born in Muskegon to Frank and Merelise (Halley) Dion on April 26, 1913. Fidelis was preceded in death by her husband, John; her beloved sister, Dionel (Dion) O'Toole, mother of their 7 oldest children; brothers, Malcom "Doc," Francis, Emeric "Mike," Halley, Arthur, Wilfred, and Willard; sisters, Laurencia White, Alberta Antekeier, and Madelyn and Mary Alice Calkins; son, Jim; granddaughter, Carley Fowler; and great-grandson Eric Davis. Fidelis is survived by her children, Mary Therese (Gene) Kendra, Peggy (Harold) Shields, Mary Alice (Paul) Klozik of Fraser, MI, Denny (Karen) O'Toole and Mary Kay (Jim) Schneider of Grand Rapids; Dionel (Jim) Toth and Maureen (Gene) Lienert of Roseburg, OR, Jean (Ken) Fowler of Sault Ste. Marie; Terry (Pat) O'Toole and Molly (Steve) Parker of Grand Rapids, Kitty (Joe) Ryznar, and Shelley (Dennis) Holland of Grand Rapids, Kevin O'Toole and John (Pat) O'Toole of Kalamazoo, and Sarah (Joe) Urbano of Stockton, CA. She is survived by 62 grandchildren, 105 great -grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Isabel Fouts and Therese LeMieux Antekeier of Traverse City. Fidelis graduated salutatorian from St Jean's High School and went on to graduate from Mercy School of Nursing in 1934. During her nursing career she worked at U of M Children's Hospital, Mercy Hospitals in Bay City and Muskegon, and several physicians' offices in the Muskegon area. In 1955, Fidelis was named Muskegon's Mother of the Year. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and the Third Order of Carmelites. Our beloved "Mim" loved her family and enjoyed playing cribbage and scrabble and working her crossword puzzles, especially with her children, her grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews. Her one regret was never being dealt that perfect "29" cribbage hand! FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, 11:00 A.M., at St. Jean's Catholic Church, 1292 Jefferson St., with Fr. Charles Antekeier officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION: Monday, 6-8 P.M., and 1 hour prior to mass at the church. ROSRAY: Monday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the church. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to St. Jeans Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available.
