Ernest A. Scharmer

Mr. Ernest A. Scharmer, age 101, died Friday, October 26, 2007. He was born in Muskegon, MI on March 14, 1906 to Edward Sr. & Emma Scharmer and married the former Fay Mack in December of 1933; she passed away in January of 1955. He married Helen Jones Vos in February of 1956, and she preceded him in death. He had been employed at Consumers Power Co. and J.C. Miller of Grand Rapids and co-owned and operated Scharmer & Scharmer, Surveyors, Engineers & Land Developers with his brother, Edward. Mr. Scharmer was an active member of First Congregational Church - Muskegon, serving as Deacon, usher, and many fund drives. Ernest was a former mayor of North Muskegon for 8 years and served on Muskegon County Board of Supervisors and was a former candidate for U.S. Congress. Mr. Scharmer was a former member of American Business Club & Century Club, charter member of Muskegon Yacht Club, and one of its organizers, and Lovell Moore Masonic Lodge F & AM. He was a life member of the following: the Council, the Chapter, Knight Templar, Commandery #32 Saladin Shrine. SURVIVORS Nephews, Fred (Jane) Scharmer of Muskegon, Roger Scharmer of Montague, Tom (Sally) Jones of Muskegon, and Lowell (Nell) Dana of Muskegon; nieces, Sue Ellen (Bob) Dahl of Montague, Judy Watts of Muskegon, Shirley Scharmer of Muskegon, and Carolyn Scharmer of Muskegon. SERVICE A family service will be held Wednesday at First Congregational Church with Rev. Vince Lavieri officiating. MEMORIAL: Harbor Hospice.
