Mr. Ernest James (Gyebnar) Gibner, age 96, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016. He was born in Muskegon Heights, Michigan on May 3, 1919 to John & Susanne (Olah) Gyebnar and married the former Barbara Elliott on August 7, 1943. Mr. Gibner had been a Vice President and Sales Manager for Certified Concrete for 36 years until retiring in 1982. He served in World War II from 1942 - 1945 with the Army Air Corps, 1252nd Army Air Force base unit in Casablanca, French Morocco as chief clerk and was discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Mr. Gibner was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School in 1937 where he later spent two years at Muskegon Business College. Ernest enjoyed yard work, walking, bowling, golf, traveling, and had a keen interest in sports but most of all enjoyed spending time with family. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, past member & officer of Muskegon General Contractors Association, Muskegon Home Builders Association, Muskegon Exchange Club, on the advisory board of the Salvation Army and the prior director of the Muskegon County Museum & Mayfest. SURVIVORS Sons, Richard (Sue) Gyebnar, William (Barbara) Gibner; daughters, Barbara (Manuel) Butzow; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Eugene) Fischer; many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by Barbara in 2012; brothers, Alex, John, and Julius; sister, Hazel. SERVICE Wednesday, January 20, 2016, 11:00 am and visitation one hour prior at Central United Methodist Church. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Muskegon County Museum.
