Ellen Hitsman, 95, of Grand Haven, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Ellen was born February 3, 1929, the daughter of Earl and Georgia Ellis Nichols. As a young girl she loved attending school. In different times than now, she was unable to graduate. Eventually she did and in 1992 obtained her diploma. She worked as a nurses aide at Riverside Nursing Home in Grand Haven for many years as well as Shore Haven Nursing Home. Ellen enjoyed her work and continued to work until she was 73. Even into retirement she continued to work doing private care for many people who wished to stay in their homes. Ellen loved the Lord and attended First Reformed Church in Grand Haven.

She loved her church family and Pastor John.

Ellen lived for many years on the River in Spring Lake. She loved her flowers and the wildlife. Ellen loved music and is rejoicing in heaven; dancing, singing, and yodeling with her family.

Children; Ronald Hitsman, Darlene Hitsman, and Pamela (John) Schuchard; Amy (Brad) Witt, Tammy Kokx, Julie Schuchard, Alisha (Jon) Coakley, and Sassy Guliano (Rob Adkerson);great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Casemier, Riley Grunow (Allie), Maddie Grunow, Mason Grunow (Claire). Christian and Mj Kokx, Nate, Jack and Alaura Coakley. Aiden, Ephriam, Mackenzie & Skylar Schuchard. Trissa Sedgley, Arianne & Jaylie Schuchard, Tuckker Greer, Ian and Amelia Adkerson; several great-great grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law Jessica (Mark) Schuchard Lorenz; and sister, Maryann (James) Hancock. She was proceeded in death by her parents, 6 brothers, 5 sisters, grandson Zach Schuchard, grandson-in-law Ryan Kokx.
