Mrs. Elizabeth R. "Bets" Charron, age 87, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 9, 1921 in Kenilworth, IL to Patrick and Nora (Kelly) Murray and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. Bets had fond memories of her childhood on the North Shore where she graduated from New Trier High School. On June 22, 1946, she married Adolph J. Charron at Sts. Faith, Hope and Charity Catholic Church in Winnetka, IL. Bets was a long-time member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church and after it closed, she and Adolph joined with St. Mary's Catholic Church. Bets was a past member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered and served in several capacities through the years. She was a current member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a long-time member of the Irish-American Society. Bets also volunteered with Catholic Social Services. She was an avid reader and was very proud of her Irish Heritage. Faith and family were Bets' first priorities. SURVIVORS include her husband of 62 years, Adolph Charron; 5 children, Patrick (Connie) Charron of Muskegon, Ann (Gary) Gunia of Kalamazoo, Timothy Charron of Kalamazoo, Peter (Debra) Charron of Norton Shores, Brian (P.J.) Charron of Wilmette, IL; 10 grandchildren, Andrew (Lisa) Charron, Jennifer (Matthew) Flenar, Julie, Eric, and Sara Gunia, Kevin Charron, Brian and Kyle Charron, Nora and John Charron; 2 great grandsons, Jack Charron and Adam Flenar. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister, and grandson Ryan Charron. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Thomas P. Page as celebrant. INTERMENT will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION with Bets' family will be 5-8 PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565 The Rosary will be prayed at 5:15 PM Friday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 9-10 AM Saturday, at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to Muskegon County Catholic Education Foundation or Harbor Hospice.
