Hoos,
Eileen Ruth
Montague, Michigan
Eileen Ruth (Hoffman) Hoos
Eileen, age 95, died quietly and comfortably on December 23, 2023. Eileen had deep roots in Oceana County, both sets of her grandparents settled there in the 1860s. The daughter of August and Amelia Hoffman and grew up on their Grand View farm in Montague on the county line with her two brothers Wallace and Forrest, and sister Eleanor, all of whom predeceased Eileen. From early days she was raised to pitch in with whatever was needed-from sister to farm girl to nurse to wife to mother of ten children, she got it done! She earned her nursing degree, then married Richard Hoos in 1949, who predeceased her in 2020 after 71 years of marriage. They settled in Montague where they were active in the community. Eileen was a charter member of the Dirt Daubers Garden Club; she attended St James Catholic Church. Eileen grieved the passing of her two sons James in 1985 and John in 1986, and endured challenges throughout the years with raising ten children. She was always busy as the Hoos household manager, but she made time for fun, and she treasured her friends whom she spoke about in the days just before she died. Eileen's signature move was to greet you or thank you with a pie; she made thousands of pies over the years and could be counted on to bring them to many family get-togethers, often at the beach. She enjoyed friendships and family time that featured card games, picnics, gardening, golfing, music, dancing, hikes, kite flying, bike rides, travel to national parks, and winters in the south. From 2020 through 2023 she enjoyed much time spent with her daughters, nieces and her long time friends. Please remember Eileen when you enjoy wildflowers in the woods, or take an after-dinner stroll, or pick up trash on the beach, and she'd remind you to always make time to take in the sunset.
