HANLEY EDMUND C. "BUD", JR. New Era Mr. Edmund C. Hanley, Jr., age 85, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2004 following an extended illness. He was born in Beaver Dam, WI, on March 10, 1919 to Edmund & Marie Mirlach Hanley. He graduated from Muskegon High School and attended Michigan State University and Yale University. Mr. Hanley served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from a sales management position at Kaydon Engineering in Muskegon following decades of service. A longtime member of St. Francis de Sales parish in Muskegon and, more recently, Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Rothbury, Mr. Hanley was active in many aspects of lay ministry. He was a Eucharistic minister, a Roman Catholic Catechism teacher and active in the Cursillo movement, including service as a Cursillo rector. Mr. Hanley was an accomplished watercolor artist, adult education art teacher, and woodcarver. He was a long-time cancer survivor and a celebrated case study for the benefits of diet for health and healing. Mr. Hanley formed a support group to help others learn and follow the macrobiotic diet. He also taught exercise and fitness classes at the YFCA. He will be remembered as a humorist and storyteller, having entertained many groups as a featured speaker. SURVIVORS He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanne Fagan Hanley, his daughter, Barbara Tim Kleaveland, his sons David Mary Hanley of Dorr, MI; Richard Anne Hanley of New Era, MI; John Michelle Hanley of Denver; James Lynell Hanley of North Muskegon; and Paul Margie Hanley of Denver; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. William Hanley in 2002 and his sister Dr. Marion Hanley in 1979. FUNERAL MASS Friday, October 15, 2004, 11 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Stasker, celebrant. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION Thursday, October 14, 2004, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Clock Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM in the Clock Chapel.
