Earl K. Holstege, a W.W.II Veteran, died March 2, 2007, in New York City at the age of 81. Mr. Holstege was born to Bert and Bessie (Kass) Holstege April 8, 1925 in Spring Lake, Michigan. As a child, he attended DeWitt School (a one-room country school house) and graduated from Grand Haven High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Murray Destroyer in the South Pacific. After the War, he attended Moody Bible Institute and graduated from University of Illinois. He resided in New York City until and after his retirement as the Auditor for Readers Digest. Earl was a Worldwide traveler. He is survived by a brother, John (Dorothy) Holstege of Fruitport; a sister, Hazel (Jay) Kamp-Sterenberg of Ferrysburg; and several dear nieces and nephews. His parents and a sister, Margaret Nelson, predeceased him, as well as a brother, LaVerne Holstege who was killed in W.W.II Battle of the Bulge. Private family services were held Friday, May 25, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammer-aad Chapel in Spring Lake with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Honorable military rites under the auspices of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 of Grand Haven were held at the funeral home and at the gravesite at Spring Lake Cemetery.
