Dr. Leland LeRoy Swenson, died January 17, 2008. He was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, December 24, 1915, to Ludwig Emil and Lora Cowle Swenson, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Dr. Harold Cowle Swenson; a granddaughter, Brigid Swenson; and a brother-in-law, Gilbert McKee. Dr. Swenson graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School, and served his internship and Orthopaedic Residency at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids. He served in the US Army in World War II, chiefly with the 148th General Hospital in the Hawaiian Islands, Kwadjalein and Saipan in the Marianas. He practiced Orthopaedic Surgery at Hackley Hospital beginning in 1949 until his retirement in 1978. He served as an Orthopaedic Consultant at the Grand Rapids Industrial Clinic until 1985 when he became Orthopaedic Disability Evaluator for the Hackley Occupational Clinic until 2005. He was a member of the Muskegon County Medical Society, the Michigan State Medical Society, the AMA, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Society, SICOT, and American College of Surgeons. He was an initial member of the Board of Trustees at Muskegon Community College, a member of the Muskegon Rotary Club, a member of White Lake Yacht Club, and a communicant member of Lebanon Lutheran Church. FAMILY: His wife, Irene; 2 daughters, Caro Swenson of NC and Lora Swenson of North Muskegon; 5 sons, Leland C. (Deborah) Swenson of CA, Duncan Swenson of IL, John "Josh" (Nanci) Swenson of Manistee, Richard Swenson of Muskegon, and Bernie (Sharon) Swenson of TX; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Rose McKee of CA. SERVICE: Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 2:00 PM, at Lebanon Lutheran Church, with Rev. Douglas M. Ogden officiating. VISITING HOURS: Friday, 4:00-8:00 PM, at Clock Funeral Home in Whitehall.
