Mr. Douglas A. Borns, age 83, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at home. He was born in Muskegon, MI on May 13, 1930 to Arthur & Rita (Manigold) Borns and served his country in the US Army. Mr. Borns was a decorated Korean War veteran and owner and operator of Doug Borns Smokehouse & Sausage Kitchen and Doug Borns Market for years. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Montague and enjoyed his trade, reading, time with family and snow skiing. SURVIVORS Sons, Randy (Cheri) Borns of Spring Lake, Rick (Carla) Borns of Spring Lake; daughter, Beth (Kirk) Rubley of NC; five grandchildren; brothers, Walter (Cleo) Borns of Muskegon, Wendell Borns of Hesperia, David (Mikki) Borns of Cadillac; sisters, Ann Green of Fruitport, Gloria Paul of SC, Patricia (Robert) Geer of CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Gordon Paul and nephew, Kurt Borns. SERVICE Saturday, April 26, 2014, 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church of Montague with Pastor John Brooks officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people make donations to the Community Foundation for Oceana County, to re-pave the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Bike Trail or St. James Lutheran Church Missions.
