Dorothy K. Shatney

Mrs. Dorothy K. Shatney, age 92, passed away, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Poppen Residence. Mrs. Shatney was born June 21, 1915 in Minneapolis, MN to Nickolas and Katherine (Betz) Dertien. Mrs. Shatney was a member of St. Frances deSales Catholic Church, and was a clerical worker at Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Shatney was a 1933 graduate of Muskegon High school. She loved to read, play cards, travel and spend time with family and friends, she will be missed and remembered in the hearts of many. On July, 4 1936 she married Harry Shatney in Muskegon, and after 69 years of marriage he passed away August 19, 2005. SURVIVORS include 2 children: Robert (Judith) Shatney of Muskegon, and Patricia (Robert) Baker of Spring Lake; 5 grandchildren, Jeanie (Dan) Colella, Craig (Leslie) Shatney, Todd (Jill) Baker, Kristin (Steve) Slawson, and Nichole Baker and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother, Donald (Tish) Dertien of Ocala, FL, and many nieces and nephews. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place 11:00AM Friday, June 13, 2008 at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas G. Simons presiding. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be given to St. Francis deSales Catholic Church Memorial Fund or to Harbor Hospice.
