Mrs. Dorothy Ellen Hammer, age 94, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016. She was born in Owosso, Michigan on December 22, 1921 to Louis & Anna (D`Beaus) Beyerlein and married Richard Hammer on December 9, 1943 .Mrs. Hammer had been a nurse in Florida, Ann Arbor and Muskegon until becoming a bookkeeper/partner for West Michigan Sound Company from which she retired. Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the first female member of the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce and was voted women of the year for Muskegon County. Dorothy was a volunteer for Widows Together, the Muskegon County Art Museum Gift Shop and helped renovate the Hume Home and Hackley Houses where she gave guided tours for over 30 years. The family wishes to express deep love and gratitude for the staff at Brookhaven for their care of Dorothy. SURVIVORS Brother-in-law, Albert (Nancy) Hammer of OH; niece, Amy Hammer of WA; long time friend, Ann (Martin) Selbig of Fruitport. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard. SERVICE Thursday, December 1, 2016, 2:00 pm at with visitation one hour prior to the service at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy J. Winkel officiating. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
