Doreen Solmssen

Mrs. Doreen C. Solmssen, age 89, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Poppen Residence after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born in Surrey, England, on July 18, 1923 to Percy William Yeates & Dora Grace Somers-Flynn and immigrated to the United States just after World War II to marry Harold Solmssen on April 11, 1946. Mrs. Solmssen was known for her hospitality, caring ways and willingness to help others. She was a great listener and always had words of wisdom to comfort others. She was an avid reader, loved to sing and was a wizard with leftovers. Her phenomenal vocabulary and competitive spirit helped her win many a nightly Scrabble game that she and Harold enjoyed prior to his death in 2006. Most of all Doreen's children and grandchildren will miss her sense of humor and loving manner. SURVIVORS Daughters, Catherine (David) Tenney of Maine, Margaret (Dan) Collison of North Muskegon; grandchildren, Lauren, Jason, Erin (Greg); great grandchildren, Finneas & Deacon; brother, Kenneth Somers-Yeates of England.
