Donald Eugene Smith, Sr.

Donald Eugene Smith I, a life long resident of Nunica, MI, died on February 23rd at the age of 85 at the Poppen Hospice Residence with his daughter Sharolyn by his side. Don is survived by his sister Norma (Hollis) Stephens, his brother's Ken (Sharon) and Reggie (Shelly) Smith, His eldest son Donald Smith II, his daughter Sharolyn (Randy) Lutz and his youngest son Mark Smith. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Sheila, his son Rickie and his brothers Wayne Smith and Robert Smith. He was born in Coopersville, MI on August 16, 1935 to Arthur Smith and Mildred Rettinhouse Smith Hitsman. Don married Dorothy Jean Hutchings on January 9, 1954 they were married 64 years before her death in 2018. He worked at Shaw Box/Dresser/Lift Tech, for many years before retiring in 1998. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1964. He served as an elder in Coopersville Congregation for many years and was very active in the ministry. Don enjoyed fishing, camping, working on projects in his garage, working on cars, restoring tractors, cribbage, dad jokes, and being a grampa. A memorial service will be held online via ZOOM on April 3, 2021. Clint Daniels will officiate. Please contact his daughter for more information.
