With a life that spanned times of war and times of peace, times of plenty and times of want, Donald Seifert lived life to the fullest while making priceless memories with his friends and loved ones along the way. The decade of the Roaring Twenties brought us some of the most vibrant days we have ever seen as a nation. Roads were being constructed in cities and towns across the nation as the more affordable automobile allowed people to travel like never before. Motion pictures became available in both color and sound while the world of flight soared to new heights thanks to the adventurous spirits of Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. Amidst this exciting time there was much to celebrate in the lives of a young couple from Chicago, Illinois, as they were filled with unspeakable joy with the birth of a healthy baby boy on September 20, 1928. Donald Anton was welcomed into the world by his parents, Bruno and Gabrielle (Glass) Seifert. In many ways he experienced an upbringing that was reflective of the times. As a young man Don served his country as a soldier in the United States Army. New and exciting changes were in store for Don when he met the young woman with whom he would share a lifetime of love. Her name was Mary Louise Steiner, and after dating for a time the couple was deeply in love. With a desire to establish a life together Don and Mary were married on August 19, 1950. Together they were blessed with the births of two children: Bruce and Sherry. To support his family, Don was the owner of Highland Park Dairy. In his time away from work, Don wasnt usually one to be idle. He was a member of First Congregational Church as well as of various organizations in his community including the Muskegon Country Club. Don also served on the board of the Muskegon Historical Society, was a trustee on the Michigan Community College Board, and on the board of Muskegon Community College for 33 years. A well respected man in the community he called home throughout much of his life, Donald Seifert was an extraordinary man to know and love. He was a devoted family man who witnessed his family tree blossom to include the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who made him so very proud. Don will be deeply missed and warmly remembered. Donald A. Seifert, of Norton Shores, died Friday, December 13, 2013.
