DOLAN, MR. EUGENE A. Grand Haven Gene Dolan, a local resident and retired businessman passed away peacefully on Mon., Jan. 23, 2006 at the age of 91. Mr. Dolan was born August 24, 1914 to B.C. and Catherine (Wolter) Dolan in Huntington, IN where he graduated from Huntington High School in 1933. He and his wife, Frances "Tant" Campbell were married Mar. 22, 1941 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso. They moved to Grand Haven in Jan. 1942 where he established the local branch of Holland Loan Assoc., a consumer finance company, in offices at 222 Washington that later conducted business as Tri Cities Finance. He continued that operation for 36 years until his retirement in 1975. During his years in business he was active in the Jaycees and was a long-time member of Rotary International. Mr. Dolan was an active member of his parish, St. Patrick's , where he served on the Parish Council, the St. Patrick's Home and School Assoc. and became a minister of Holy Communion in 1972. He was also instrumental in the founding of St. Pat's George McCarthy Council of the Knights of Columbus in the late 1940's and remained active and interested in that organization for the rest of his life. His community service included several terms as a member and chairman of the Grand Haven Municipal Hospital Board and years of service as board director of the Haven Foundation for the developmentally disabled. Gene enjoyed the company of family and friends, listening to recordings of artists from the Big Band Era, activities at the Knights of Columbus and breakfast out. Mr. Dolan leaves a son and daughter-in-law, James Campbell and Mary Ellen (Miller) Dolan of Grand Haven, a brother, Robert J. of Huntington, IN; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews; many devoted and faithful friends and neighbors, including the Marty DeWynn and Larry McFadden families, Jean Grossnickle, George McCarthy Jr., Betsy Ripple and the staff at Seville Adult Foster Care , all of whom enriched his life. Mr. Dolan was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Tant, who passed away April11, 1998. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am, Friday, Jan. 27, 2006 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Thurs., with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Hospice of N. Ottawa Community and to Seville Adult Foster Care of Grand Haven.
