Dennis Faucher

Many characteristics make up the lives of many great people, but those derived from the heart are the qualities that leave a forever imprint on the hearts of others. With a vitality all his own, Dennis Faucher was one of those rare individuals who was like a precious jewel amongst life's treasures. He exuded a joyful spirit wherever he went, and carried himself with grace in all he did. Dennis had a way of putting people at ease, making them feel welcome and a valued part of his life. In as much as he gave, lives have been made richer and hearts have been made full for having known and loved Dennis Faucher. He was an absolute joy to be around, and enlightened those in his company with a social zest for life and wonderful sense of humor. A special man in the hearts of those he leaves behind, he will be deeply missed. Dennis' story began in a decade marked by quieter, more stable times in America. The baby boom found families moving into the suburbs, and with women entering the workforce in droves, the introduction of the TV dinner was a welcome addition. While Elvis was ushering in his career, the U.S. Supreme Court ushered out segregation in all U.S. public schools. People welcomed television programs such as Father Knows Best, and at a time when Ellis Island closed its doors, Rock Around the Clock hit the airwaves by storm. Amidst these exciting times, a most welcome event in the lives of Richard and Barbara (Dault) Faucher of Muskegon, Michigan included the October 14, 1954 birth of their precious son, Dennis Richard. The second of three children, Dennis grew up in their family home on Chippewa Drive in the community of Norton Shores with his older sister, Suzette, followed by the addition of his younger brother, Ronald. His father worked at the Walt Plant Appliance Store, and his mother remained at home as a dedicated and devoted homemaker. He received his early education at Lincoln Elementary School down the road from their home, and North Shore Junior High before attending Mona Shores High School. He played saxophone in his high school band and even then demonstrated his great social flair in the company of good friends. Travel and family vacations were a big part of Dennis' youth. They camped often in their motor home with trips east and out west to California. Summer trips in their 35 foot cabin cruiser were always enjoyed as they spent unforgettable times on trips to Mackinaw Island and other memorable stops. During the winter, he loved snowmobiling with good friends, Jeff and Jerry Colburn, among others. After graduating from high school, Dennis went on to further his education at IUPUI - Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis for a year. He then transferred to Michigan State where he received his degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality. Such a fitting career choice for a young man such as Dennis, his natural magnetism and social presence were sure to favor him with success. He had a great time attending Michigan State, and made many friends. He was instantly drawn to the community spirit and camaraderie, and especially enjoyed tailgating get-togethers during football season. With his degree in hand, Dennis settled in the Lansing area and for years had a beautiful home in the heritage area of the city. For a time he worked in restaurant management before taking a position with Tender Care managing nursing homes. He excelled in this area and began extensive travel working as a troubleshooter in which he solved issues reflected in nursing homes throughout the country. Dennis eventually returned to school for Business Administration and landed a position with Burcham Hills Health Centers as their CHR Administrator. For over 20 years, Dennis dedicated himself to his work there. He placed his entire heart and soul into the residents, their family, and many staff who came to admire his kind and compassionate traits both professionally and personally. There was much to love about Dennis. He naturally drew others to his side with his inner joy and ready smile. Always welcoming, his laughter and positive demeanor was a bright light, and when he walked into a room, it was clearly felt. He had a remarkable way of bringing people together, and always the life of the party, his uncanny sense of humor and graciousness created a sense of belonging. He knew how to throw a fabulous party, and went out of his way to make others feel special. Whether a kind word, taking notice of hard work, or simply giving a pat on the back, Dennis saw the good in others. He exemplified a discerning, nurturing quality too few acquire, and came by it naturally. Dennis' social aptitude and flair for style was also evident during the Christmas holiday, his favorite time of year. He loved decorating for his annual Silver Bells in the City parade party attended by a multitude of friends, and it served as a kickoff to the holiday season. He had an eye for detail and was quite savvy when it came to interior design. At work, Dennis never settled for simply putting up a tree and throwing garland on the doorways. As if one were in a winter wonderland, he made the center a place of celebration, styled elegantly for all to see and enjoy. Sarasota, Florida was Dennis' second home where he loved walking Lido Beach, lunched at St. Armand's Circle and enjoyed shopping at Tommy Bahamas. He was also a big fan of Disney World and loved times spent there with family and friends. Over the years Dennis made many summer trips to Saugatuck, Michigan weekending with friends and strolling along beautiful Oval Beach on the shores of Lake Michigan. Beginning with his family's yacht, Dennis came to have a great love of boats and boating. During the summer months he enjoyed being a guest on many friend's boats where he shared wonderful times sailing and cruising the lakes and rivers of Michigan. Although he never owned his own watercraft, his joy of boating even enticed him to lease a yacht one time where he hosted a party for friends. A voice within his community and social network, Dennis lent his name and energy in support of the yearly fundraiser for the Burcham Hills Foundation where many of Dennis' friends graciously hosted and opened their beautiful homes for the worthwhile event. He was also a founding member of the business networking organization, Suits and the City, serving on its board. A likable, well versed gentleman, he was comfortable rubbing elbows with politicians and area business people in Lansing. Dennis loved the closeness he shared with family. His sister's home was one of his favorite places, and he loved spending time with her, along with his niece and special grandnieces, Makenna and Ryley. It was also important to Dennis to keep in contact with friends from all parts of his life, always conveying his sincere interest in their lives. He recently attended his 40th high school class reunion which was a delight. Along with traveling to Florida and an occasional trip to his hometown of Muskegon, Dennis also loved taking cruises and regular trips to Las Vegas. When Dennis took someone into his heart, they were a friend for life. He loved his friends, and gave freely of his time. He had a variety of friendships, and drew people from various backgrounds together, thus enlightening many to embrace all lifestyles. He supported his friends in their personal lives and careers, offering the confidence they needed to believe in themselves, enabling them to succeed. A true mentor, Dennis was an inspiration and fine example in all he said and did. Over the last few years, Dennis experienced health challenges with is heart and underwent several surgeries. During his last stay in the hospital, he was looking forward to going home, yet sadly his body had grown too weak. On Saturday, July 14, 2012, Dennis died of a heart attack at the age of 57. A precious jewel in the memory of the heart, Dennis Richard Faucher will be long remembered as a treasure in the lives of many. He is survived by his sister, Suzette Faucher (Frank) Merle; niece, Brandy Merle (Rob) Wozniak; and the joys of his life, twin great-nieces, seven year old Makenna Rae Wozniak and Ryley Hannah Wozniak, all of Clermont, Florida. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janet Faucher (Curt) Fater of Jackson, Michigan; special friends, Dave Christensen and David Strattard; many, many close and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard in 1995; mother, Barbara in 1998; and brother, Ronald Faucher in 1992.
