David Lee Japenga, age 77, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, MI on November 7, 1947 to Rabert & Clara (Lappo) Japenga and graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1965. David served his country in the US Army during the VietNam War where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He married the former Sherry Clarke on January 17, 1970. Dave was proud to be a stay-at-home father and always enjoyed spending time with children. He liked to go deer hunting, both bow and rifle, and also liked going fishing. Through the years there were fun camping trips to Kibey Creek and Pancho's Pond with the family.

Daughters Kristie (Jerry) Davis, Misty (Anthony) Japenga-Riley; Sons Scott Japenga, Brandon Japenga; grandchildren, Andrew Japenga, Bryan (Amanda) Japenga, Jimmy Davis, Joseph (Anna) Japenga, Jon Japenga, Sherri (Carson) Japenga-Brown, Skyler Japenga-Riley, Colin Japenga, Coby Japenga, Landen Jasick, Jada Sue Japenga, Samantha (Woody) Pickering; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Sadie, Ryliegh; Brother Edward Japenga; special friend Roger Spoelhof. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Aunt & Uncles who raised him, Margaret & Jim VanderVelde, Helen & Bill Balaban; wife Sherry, daughter Sherry Sue Japenga, son, David Japenga II; grandson, Jerry Davis III; brother Robert Japenga.

Monday, November 11, 2024, 1:00 PM at Clock Funeral Home. Interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
