David Lamar Heckaman II, age 80, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025. He was born in Sioux City, IA on July 26, 1944 to David & Norma (Hall) Heckaman. Dave grew up in Lakeville, IN and excelled in basketball, track and baseball at Lakeville High School. He went on to Ball State University where he was on the basketball and track team. He married the former Georgia Buehrer on September 26, 1964, whom he had met in high school. After graduating with his BA and MA from college Dave and Georgia both took teaching positions with Muskegon Public School in 1967. Dave was a teacher, coached various different teams and eventually became the Athletic Director for Muskegon Public Schools, retiring after 32 years. Through the years they raised horses on their property in Spring Lake and Dave was very involved with daughters equestrian activities. Dave also continued to play softball throughout his life on Men's Travel Softball leagues and won several world championships. He and Georgia were also members at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven. A dedicated teacher, coach, father, grandfather and friend, David will be truly missed by all who knew him.

wife Georgia; daughters Corry Lohman; Lindie (Scott) Schweitzer; grandchildren Logan Schweitzer, Cole Schweitzer, Hunter Lohman, Chloe Lohman; brother Toby (Sharon) Heckaman; brother Dennis Heckaman; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jill Slagel

SERVICE

Wednesday, May 21, 2025, 1:00 PM at United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven with Rev. Louis Grettenberger officiating.

VISITATION

One hour prior to the service at United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven. There will also be a reception following service.
