Mr. Daniel Rapoport, age 94, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL on October 7, 1916 to Isaac & Anna (Paisel) Rapoport and served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He married Shirley Goodman and after her passing in 1990, he met and married Anne English. Mr. Rapoport was captain of the tennis team at Tuley High School and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1937 with a B.S. in ceramic engineering and had been employed at Howmet in numerous supervisory positions until retirement. He held a patent for shell mold casing and worked extensively with Howmet's foreign licensees. He was the oldest member of Temple B'nai Israel, serving in many capacities including president of the congregation twice. He was a life member of Muskegon Yacht Club, life member of the Friends of the Muskegon Museum of Art & life member and past president of the Muskegon Camera Club. Mr. Rapoport was a past president of the Muskegon Community Concert Association, where he instigated the student concert series that over 66,000 elementary children have attended. He received the American Red Cross Health & Safety Services Award in 2008 for taking blood pressures at MAP Supper House for many years. Dan and Shirley Rapoport received the Hackley Commendation for Service to the Humanities from the Friends of Hackley Library in 1995. SURVIVORS Wife, Anne English; sons, Roger (Martha Ferriby) Rapoport of Muskegon, Ronald Rapoport of CA; daughter, Carla (David Raikes) Rapoport of England; grandchildren, Rebecca (Dean Chung), Julie (Tim Derouin), Jonathan, Elizabeth (Peter Airey), Charlotte, Sarah; and three great grandchildren Allanna, Jason Zachary and George. He was preceded in death by first wife, Shirley; sisters, Charlotte & Anita, daughter-in-law, Joan Rapoport & niece, Bonnie Jones.
