Dana Ray Smith of Muskegon, MI crossed over to heaven on July 6, 2021. He was 63. He will always be cherished by the love of his life, wife and best friend Rhonda Policha Smith and the son of his heart Charlie Ray Smith. Dana was the son of the late Donald and Betty Smith and treasured brother of Daniel Wayne and Susan Smith, of Muskegon, Sister Jim and Tammie (Smith) Berghuis of Holton. Bonus children he loved are Thomas and Sandie Krueger of Del Rio, Texas and Matthew and Andrea Barre of Tucson, AZ. Granddaughters Lily and Anna children of Andrea. Dana is a veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving his entire tour aboard the USS Independence. He had a love for the seas and sailing on Lake Michigan. He participated in many cross lake sail races over the years. Dana discovered a new passion in camping and road trips with Rhonda. Touring the states making memories as the went. His love for his son was evident in everything he said and did. Tee ball games, sailing and after dinner talks. Dana has blessed Charlie with honor, grace, and confidence. Dana will be fondly remembered and truly missed by many lifelong friends mainly Kyle Burris and Mike Rienick who shared so much in his life. Your kindness, compassion, and understanding will be deeply missed. We thank you Dana for sharing your life with us. We will see you again. Our family is blessed to have our cousin, The Reverend Dr. Thomas Michael Doherty , who will lead the celebration of Dana's Life. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. , VFW N Muskegon.
