Dale Smith

Mr. Dale E. Smith, age 86, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, February 20, 2011 in Muskegon after struggling with COPD for several years. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on January 31, 1925 to Ernest & Jenny (Pontious) Smith who shortly after his birth, moved to Muskegon. He graduated from Muskegon Senior High School in 1943 and immediately joined the US Air Force as a radar specialist. In 1944 he married the former Ruth Jeanne Williams. At the end of WWII, Dale worked for many years as a brick mason and then as a truck driver. Mr. Smith retired from the North Shores Police Department as Sergeant and concluded his work years in apartment management. He was a member of Calvary Church since 1959. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. SURVIVORS Wife of 66 years, Ruth; sons, Dr. Barry (Brenda) Smith of PA, Randall (Lori) Smith of Muskegon; daughters, Cheryl Smith of WI, Janet (Duane) Guss of Muskegon; grandchildren, Daniel, Tiffany, Aaron & Corine; great grandchildren, Aliya, Sawyer, Tahlia and John E.; sister, Evelyn (David) Fiet; numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Edward Smith; brother, Clayton Smith, & sister, Eleanor Baird. SERVICE Thursday, February 24, 2011, 11:00 AM and visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the Clock Chapel - Muskegon with Rev. Dr. William J. Rudd officiating.
