Dale Jarvis worked hard throughout his life but as a true musician at heart, there was nothing he enjoyed more than playing his guitar The year 1931 was part of a trying time in American history as the Great Depression blanketed much of the world and it was this year that saw the unemployment rate double. There were glimmers of hope here and there, however, including the completion of the Empire State Building and the conviction of gangster Al Capone. This was a year to remember for the family of Thomas and Lorena (Rochelau) Jarvis since it was on January 26th that they welcomed the birth of their son, Dale. Born in Cheboygan, Michigan, Dale was the oldest of four boys in his family including his bothers Raymond, Ronald, and Richard. After graduating from Our Lady of Lourdes School in River Rouge, Dale met a wonderful young woman named Della Louise Stahl. After falling in love, the couple married on August 8, 1950, in Greenup, Kentucky. As our nations involvement in the Korean Conflict continued, Dale served in the Navy during this time of great need. While in the military, he was a musician who predominantly played the bass guitar. When his duty to his country was fulfilled, Dale returned to his wife and together they were blessed with three children: Cela, Lisa, and Norman. He found work as a machinist at Challenge Machinery where he remained for over 24 years until he retired. With his free time, Dale was an avid musician who loved playing his guitar in various bands. He was also a member of the American Legion in Grand Haven and more recently became involved in Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Dale E. Jarvis died Thursday, January 27, 2011. Dales family includes his children, Cela (Albert Rougeux) Sweeney of OH, Lisa Rowe of Muskegon, Norman (Kathy) Jarvis of AZ; grandchild, Ky Jarvis of AZ; brother, Ronald (Diane) Jarvis of OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise on 1/23/2010; brothers, Raymond & Richard Jarvis. A service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011, 2:00 p.m. and visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the Clock Life Story Funeral Homes Muskegon location Muskegon, MI, with Pastor Ken Shady officiating.
