Col. Arthur Carbonell M.D.

Col (Ret.) Arthur J. Carbonell, M.D., passed away February 14, 2007. He was born December 7, 1915 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He graduated from George Washington University Medical School in 1940, and entered the US Army Medical Corps in July 1941. He retired from the Army in April 1966. He served overseas in WWII with combat units for 2 1/2 years, through the Solomon Islands and during the invasion of Luzon, Philippine Islands. In 1953, he spent a year with the 131st E Vac Unit in Korea. After his retirement from the Army, he was employed by civil service from 1966 to 1984 with duty as a Medical Doctor for the Air Force at Ent Air Force Base and Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Colorado Springs, CO, VFW Post 9891 in Colorado and VFW Post 8846 in Muskegon, MI. He was also a member of the National Association of Uniformed Services and the Retired Officers Association. He is survived by 2 sons, Arthur Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and Michael of Grand Junction, CO, and 2 daughters, Mary Hebner of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rose Neese of Littleton, CO. He retired to Michigan where he and his wife, Etta have lived since 1985. He was preceded in death by 1 stepson, and 2 step grandchildren. He is survived by 2 stepsons, Carl Lemon and Dean Grable of Muskegon, and 2 stepdaughters, Laci LaLonde of South Carolina and Callie Yordy of Muskegon. He was the proud grandfather of 7 biological grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 11 biological great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1725 W. Giles Rd.). He will be interred with Military Honors in the Spring at Laketon Township Cemetery. He was a great man who will be missed very much by all of us. We salute you and love you, Art.
