Clarence A. Oostmeyer

Mr. Clarence A. Oostmeyer, age 89, was ushered into his heavenly home on Friday, December 12, 2008. He was born May 19, 1919 in Muskegon to Charles and Della (Rozema) Oostmeyer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII in The Philippines Campaign. On November 27, 1947, he married the former Beatrice A. VanderMey in Muskegon. Clarence worked as an insurance salesman most of his life, but retired from K-Mart Corporation in 1981. No one was ever a stranger to him and he thoroughly enjoyed all people. He loved to travel and camp with his wife, Beatrice. They also enjoyed sitting along the Muskegon Channel watching the boats go by. His greatest loves were his God, his family, and his church, Evanston Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice and son, James, 4 brothers, Ben, John, Harvey and Robert, and 2 sisters, Angeline and Jeanette. SURVIVORS include his two daughters, Kathy (Chris) Dziepak, Linda (Bill) Hunter; 4 grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Dziepak, Jeffrey and Jared Hunter; 1 sister, Frances "Mick" (Martin) Davey of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews including Dodie McLaughlin who fussed over him during his residence at Brookhaven. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Monday, December 15, 2008 at Evanston Avenue Baptist Church with Pastors Allan Engstrom and Shane Prewitt co-officiating. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service, 12-1 PM Monday at the church.
