Clara L. Gardner, age 98, went to be with her Savior on March 29, 2007, after slowly ebbing away in her struggle with Alzheimer's. Clara was born December 31, 1908 in Manistique, Michigan to August and Walburge (Zielbeck) Vande-walle, the eighth of ten children, along with six sisters, and three brothers, all who have preceded her in death. Together they where raised on a farm (referred to as the Belgian Settlement). The memories of her childhood farm gave her great comfort throughout her life, and in the end she always wanted to get back to the farm. Clara loved to spend time with her family, and was totally devoted to them; they were her life. Clara also loved to plant flowers and always had a beautiful garden. On July 11, 1936 she married George A. Gardner, who preceded her in death in 1977. Clara is survived by four daughters, Greta (Robert) Noordhoek, Barbara (Ronald) Friday, Connie (Warren) Robinson, and Deborah (Steve) Spangler. Along with her children, she is survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-children. Clara has now entered her eternal rest. There is no more pain or mental anguish for which her family is rejoicing, even though she will always be loved and missed so very, very much. God Speed, Angel Mother. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10th, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 451 S. Getty, with Fr. Mike Olson officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Poppen Hospice Residence.
