Charles W. Swanson

Mr. Charles W. Swanson, age 71, passed away at home Thursday evening, December 18, 2008 following a long illness. Charles was born in Norton Twp on April 5, 1937 to Russell E. and Mariette (Lang) Swanson. Following graduation from Grand Haven High School in 1955, Chuck joined the U.S. Naval Reserves. On September 5, 1959 he married the former, Charlene V. Hammond in Decatur, MI. Mr. Swanson was employed as a computer analyst at J.S.J Corporation in Grand Haven for more than 40 years, retiring in 2002. Chuck enjoyed traveling, singing in many of the West Michigan Churches, playing softball, coaching Little League Baseball and also serving 17 yrs. on the Board of Directors of Tri-Cities Credit Union. It was times spent with family, their retirement home on Indian Lakes and grandchildren that captured his heart. He is survived his: wife of 49 years, Charlene; two children, Shannah M. (Gene) Havens of Kalkaska, MI and Dr. Charles W. (Faith) Swanson II of Rockford, MI; three grandchildren, Trenton Polack, Gabrielle Haven and Charles W. Swanson III; two brothers, Russell (Brenda) Swanson of Fruitport and August (Joy) Swanson of New Era and a sister, Betty (David) Archibald of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ron. The funeral service will be held at: The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Rev. Charles W. Swanson II, D.M. and Rev. Russell Osbeck officiating. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to the service. Interment: Fruitport Twp. Cemetery. Memorial: Muskegon Rescue Mission.
