Mrs. Carolyn Jean Bredin, age 76, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 at her home. She was born July 24, 1931 in Detroit, MI, to George Rudy and Ora Lee (Torrian) Cooper. On July 12, 1952, Carolyn married Howard Bredin Jr. at Temple United Methodist Church in Muskegon Heights. She worked 10 years as a senior citizen coordinator and then 11 more years as a tour coordinator for Muskegon Travel Bureau until her retirement in 1992. Carolyn was a member of Unity United Methodist Church for nearly 48 years and had been in charge of the nursery for many years. She was a former chairman for the Muskegon March of Dimes, and did lots of volunteering for Hackley Hospital, including being a board member and one of Hackley Hospital's "Play Ladies". The compassion she had for others was demonstrated all of her life through her kindness and generosity to so many. Watching people of all walks of life gave her great delight. Carolyn enjoyed her family, traveling and getting away to Florida. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Howard; 2 sons, Jim (Nancy) Bredin of Holt, MI, and Scott Allen (Theresa "Terri") Bredin of Rothbury; 1 daughter, Pamela Lynne (Jim) Schnarre of St. Marys, OH; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Rudy (Emily) Cooper Jr. of Grand Rapids; 1 sister, Betty (Vern) Pitts of Littleton, CO; and several nieces and nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:30 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008, at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231-726-5210 with her pastor, Rev. Nancy Boelens officiating. VISITATION will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Hackley VNS Hospice or Unity United Methodist Church.
