Carol Reva Mcgarry

Carol Reva (Thompson) McGarry, age 91, passed away March 23, 2023. Carol was born in Bear Lake Township, Manistee County on December 16, 1931 to Ward and Reva Thompson. She was married on June 28, 1952 to Richard James McGarry from Lake Twp, Benzie County for 66 years until his passing on September 23, 2018. Survivors: James (Elizabeth) McGarry of Brighton, MI, Janelle McGarry of Muskegon, MI, Brenda (Bob) McDowell of AZ, Karen Joy McGarry of Williamston, MI, Kristi (John) Christopherson of WA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sister: Joyce (Larry) Reed of Bear Lake, MI. Brother-in-laws: Mitchell (Charlotte) McGarry of Newaygo, MI and Larry McGarry of Tucson, AZ. Carol was preceded in death by both parents; sisters Dorothy (John) Suchy of MI, June (Barney) Clayton of CA, Marilyn (Gerald) Jewett of MI, and brother Bud Thompson of MI. Carol grew up in Bear Lake, MI and played basketball in high school, going on to attend County Normal to become a teacher in rural Bear Lake at a one-room schoolhouse (grades 1 thru 8) before having children. She enjoyed being a 4-H and Girl Scout leader as well as a Boy Scout Den Mother. Carol enjoyed her time with the Phillips Elementary school and was in charge of the school lunch program until her retirement 18 years later. She was a skilled seamstress and loved to sew, knit, needlepoint, bake for everyone and was self-taught at piano and accordion. Carol had a wonderful sense of humor, and she ran a loving tight-knit family home with her husband Richard. They loved to spend time together and travel during their retirement years. Graveside service with interment at the Pleasanton Township Cemetery in Manistee County, MI.
