SOPER, MR. CARL J. Grand Haven Mr. Carl J. Soper, age 87, died Sunday, September 30, 2001. He was born in Waterloo, MI on February 13, 1914 to Claude & Kate Soper & married the former Esther Merriman in Ann Arbor, MI on April 8, 1939. Mr. Soper was a Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard during WWII. He had worked as Food Service Director for the University of Michigan Hospital for 30 years as well as involvement in food service with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was known for his bread baking, & would grind his own wheat, flour & other ingrediants. Mr. Soper also volunteered at the Adventist Community Service Center. SURVIVORS 1 son, Stephen Soper of Portland, ME; 3 daughters, Carla DeWayne Butcher of Hendersonville, NC, Genie Don Philo of Grand Haven, MI & Jan Sanford of Muskegon, MI; 2 sisters, Evelyn Patton of Howell, MI & Lucia Skoman of Ann Arbor, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther on October 26, 2000. SERVICE Wednesday, October 3, 2001, 2:00 PM at the Clock Chapel-Grand Haven with Pastor Lewis O. Anderson officiating. Interment at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens. VISITATION Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the service at Clock Funeral Home-Grand Haven.
