Carl Mattson

Mr. Carl Robert "Bob" Mattson, age 86, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Oak Crest Manors of Spring Lake. He was born December 6, 1920 in Muskegon to Carl G. and Emma (Kronman) Mattson and lived in the area his entire life. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force having served during W.W.II from 1942-1945 as a radio operator on a C37 transport flying out of North Africa. On July 3, 1943, he married the former Viola M. Elwell in Muskegon while home on leave. He worked 41 years for Teledyne-Continental Motors and retired in 1986 as a Senior Systems Analyst. He was a life-long member of Samuel Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, and Council Member and was active on the church golf league. SURVIVORS include his wife, Viola; 3 sons, Jim (Suzanne) Mattson of Fruitport Twp., Jerry (Judy) Mattson of Laketon Twp., John (Kristy) Mattson of North Muskegon; 2 grandsons, Bradley (Natasha) Mattson of Richfield, MN, Chuck (Gemmie) Mattson of Muskegon; and 1 great granddaughter, Cloey Mattson of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Samuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. VISITATION with Bob's family will be 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue (231) 726-5210 INTERMENT will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery.
