Mr. Billy G. "Bill" Smith, age 80, of Muskegon, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007, after a brief illness, at Poppen House Residence. He was born on February 28, 1927 in Hornbeak, TN. Bill was one of four children born to Clarence M. Smith and Farra Blackley Smith. He served in the United States Maritime Service as a very young man. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the USS Beacon Hill in World War II. He served in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant during the Korean War. On May 1, 1953, Bill married the former Patsy Ann Smith of Muskegon. He retired in 1984 from Kaydon after 32 years of service. In March of 1970, he founded Bill Smith Used Cars. In 1984, his son, Scott, assumed the responsibilities of running the business he loved. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 54 years of marriage, Pat; two sons: Scott (Kimberly) Smith and Mark Smith; two daughters: Susan (John) Hughes and Nancy (Richard) Hamlin; seven grandchildren: Ashley Smith, Kristin Smith, Emily Smith, Andrew Kitchka, Matthew Kitchka, Billy Smith, and Brian Smith. Also surviving are two sisters: Carolyn (Buddy) Grisham and Peggy Peyton of Tennessee; and three other special people to him: Pamela Smith, Kathy Green and Daniel Kitchka. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Clara Miller, from Cincinnati, OH. As per Bill's wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no visitation or services. Anyone wishing to express condolences is asked to remember a charity of his/her choice or, as Bill would say, "Give your love, flowers and hugs to those that you hold dearest in your hearts".
