Betty Jane Scott Osburn, 98, spent her first day in Heaven in the Lord's arms. She passed away at home on August 14, 2026, exactly one month shy of her 99th birthday.
She was born on September 14, 1927, in Muskegon, MI, to Oliver and Marie (DeJonge) Scott. Betty grew up on her parents' celery farm in Norton Shores, where she learned the value of hard work and dedication at an early age working at Scott's Celery Farm. She was the last surviving original member of the Scott family.
On July 15, 1950, she married Bill G. Osburn, who preceded her in death on May 7, 2009.
Betty was employed as a secretary at both Muskegon Piston Ring and Continental Motors. She also worked as a celery planter at both Scott's Greenhouse and Workman Greenhouse, and later spent 10 years as a bakery clerk at Punches Grocery Store in Fruitport.
She was a very busy mom, raising six children. Betty had a sweet, calming presence and a great sense of humor. She was a radiant redhead with beautiful blue eyes, and most notably, the kindest friend you could ever hope to be lucky enough to have.
Betty was a talented crafter, having sewn countless clothes, toys, blankets, and Halloween costumes over the years. She also quilted and knitted hundreds of pairs of mittens to sell at bazaars. She loved to cook, garden, travel, and decorate cakes - but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was a proud, dedicated member of the Eta Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Marie (DeJonge) Scott; her husband, Bill G. Osburn; granddaughter Andrea Mura and her siblings Kathryn Mangione, Lavern Johnson, Harold Scott, Beatrice Ankeny, Dorothy Wood, Nelson Scott, and Willard Scott.
She is survived by her six children: Marjorie (Bob) Mura, Mary Osburn, Bonnie (Bruce) Hekkema, Michael Osburn, Steven (Dawn) Osburn, and Susan Osburn; her beloved cat, Little Blackie; Grandchildren, David Osburn, Hannah Osburn, Kenneth Jones, Daniel Jones, Robert Jones, Robert Mura, Ethan Mura, Elijah Mura; 11 great-grandchildredn and several great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private family funeral will take place.
