Betty Buikema

Betty Joyce Buikema (Moesker), age 91, loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. She was born on August 13, 1927 to Albert & Josephine Moesker. Betty grew up on Cottage Grove and lived her whole life in the Beachwood/Bluffton/Lakeside area. She married Donald Buikema after his service in the Navy during WWII on January 24, 1947 and celebrated 71 years together before his death earlier this year. Betty retired from Muskegon Public Schools after working at Bunker Jr. High & Muskegon High School. Betty was a member of Forest Park Covenant Church and a former member of Fifth Reformed & Westwood Reformed churches. Betty ushered at the Frauenthal Theater, enjoyed her time in Florida, swimming, playing bridge, going to the casino with her sister, puzzles and watching her favorite TV show, Wheel of Fortune. SURVIVORS Children, Rodney (Nancy) Buikema of Muskegon, Christine Adams of Muskegon, Cynthia (Art) Backstrom of Muskegon, Mathew (Emily) Buikema of Battle Creek; son-in-law, Tybo Wilhelms; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (John) McKeown; many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Debbie. SERVICE Saturday, December 15, 2018, 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Clock Chapel - Muskegon.
