Mr. Benjamin Michael Szczesny, age 84, died peacefully Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at his home. Ben was born on August 26, 1923 in Muskegon, MI to Peter and Sofia (Brychell) Szczesny. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, it's Male Choir and Athletic Club, the Polish Falcons and Polish Roman Catholic Union. Ben was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having served in Sipan. He retired from S.D. Warren Paper Co., and was formerly the Secretary for it's Bowling League. Ben married Mickilina Kawalec, later Aleksandra Glista and then Maria Kaleta. Survivors include his wife, Maria; children, Victor (Di) Szczesny of Wyoming, MI, Thomas (Kathy), Paul (Denise) and Raymond Szczesny, and Irene Narowitz, all of Muskegon; his step-children, Zofia Macior and Wladyslaw (Teresa) Kaleta all of Poland; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Strach and Teresa (Leon) Doerr of Muskegon, MI; sister-in-law, Betty Szczesny of Muskegon, MI; brother-in-law, Martin O'Toole of Muskegon, MI. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin Szczesny, brother, Jerome Szczesny, and sister, Genevieve O'Toole. The Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11am Saturday at St. Michael's Church, followed by full military honors under the auspices of the Muskegon County Veterans Council. Burial will be made in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation hours Friday will be from 6-8 pm at the Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7pm. Visitation also at the church one hour prior to service Saturday.
