Benita Fyan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born July 27, 1953 to Ben and Petee (Pauline Peterson) Cihak. She spent her entire life in the Muskegon/Twin Lake area. Benita graduated in 1971 from Reeths-Puffer High School. Her life's work and greatest gift was caring for others. She had many jobs that involved helping foster children and families; from being a caregiver at Child Haven, to being a foster parent to over 100 children in Muskegon County, to educating and training families to become foster families all over the state. The ripple effect of her work literally touched thousands of people. When she wasn't doing foster care work, she enjoyed hosting fabulous parties at her home on Middle Lake, baking and catering for church or other people's parties, spending time with her grandkids, and finding the best deals at garage sales and the dollar stores. She was a loyal friend and a beloved mother and grandmother. Even while fighting illness, it was said that she never had a bad day. She became a favorite patient at U of M, where she would make the doctors and nurses laugh with her crazy comments and shenanigans.
