BIRD, SR. MR. BASIL STEPHEN Muskegon Mr. Basil Stephen Bird, Sr. age 85, died Monday, March 22, 2004. He was born in Mancelona, MI on April 2, 1918 to Steve & Viola Rose Bird & married the former June A. Moore on October 12, 1940. Mr. Bird had been employed as an Installer & Repairman for GTE for over 30 years until retiring in 1980. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake & Volunteer Fireman for Fruitport Twp. Mr. Bird had taught a First Aid Class at the Fire Department & Phone Company. He enjoyed hunting & fishing. Mr. Bird received the LeCroix Award for saving a young boys life while on the job with the phone company. SURVIVORS Wife, June ; 2 sons, Robert Joyce Bird of Fruitport & Basil Linda Bird, Jr. of Rothbury; 3 daughters, Iris George Stuart of Burton, MI, Wendy Bird of Muskegon & Julie Bill Turpin of Fruitport; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Beatrice Caryl Johnson of Fruitport & Lynn Harold Beemer, Sr. of Grant, MI; 3 brothers, Lewis Lorene Bird of Muskegon; Lonnie Beverly Bird of Ravenna & Kenneth Eva Bird of Dayton, OH; He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Stanley & 1 sister, Leola Rose. SERVICE Friday, March 26, 2004, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Spring Lake with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating with a military service under the Auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. Interment at Fruitport Cemetery. VISITATION Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Clock Funeral Home - Fruitport. MEMORIAL: Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana or Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake.
