Clifford Barrett passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, in Muskegon MI. He was born Friday, November 13, 1925, in Alpena, Michigan to William Alfred and Celena Voylet (Whaley) Barrett. Clifford was a Veteran of W.W.II with European Service in the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, and was honorably discharged in April 1946. He married Georgianna L. LaVassuer on October 4, 1947 and, together, they raised two children in Muskegon. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, deer hunting and loved using creativity and imagination to make useful inventions from scrap items. Clifford retired from West Michigan Steel/ Westran Corporation in 1988, after 40 years of service, and, while he retained all of his former interests, added faithful attendance at Fifth Reformed Church, where he loved to entertain and enrich church activities by playing his harmonica. Clifford had a great love for family and friends but, most especially, all children. He rarely resisted the opportunity to help a small child and loved to coax them into smiling and laughing. He now enters heaven to join his parents; son, David; brothers, Vern, Perl, Orson and Alfred; and sister, Etta; along with numerous loved and missed friends and relatives. He is survived by his loving wife, Georgianna; son, Steven (Diane) Barrett; daughter, Debra (Donald) Hawkins; granddaughters, Kelly (Robert) Watkins, Lori (Paul) Pagano, Keri Barefoot and Kristi Hawkins; step-granddaughter, Courtney (Edward Webber) Flora; and great grandchildren, Justin Watkins, Lorin Watkins, Leeanna Harris, Jordan Barefoot and Xavier Pagano. He also leaves behind sisters, Ivry (Bud) Fielstra, Clara Garvey, Doris Zech and Darlene Webster; plus several loving nephews and nieces. Visitation will be 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Friday, December 8, 2006 at Ever Rest Funeral Home, 1783 Keating Avenue in Muskegon. The Funeral Service for Clifford will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Fifth Reformed Church, 2330 Holton Road in Muskegon, with the Rev. Norman Swier officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mona View Cemetery in Muskegon Heights.
