Barbara Hansen

Mrs. Barbara J. Hansen, age 84, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014. She was born in Muskegon, MI on February 9, 1930 to John & Dora (Koning) DeGroot and married Irving Hansen Jr. on May 5, 1950. Barbara was a beautiful seamstress who loved working in her flower garden. She was a gifted organist and Director of Music at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Central Reformed Church and a member of The American Guild of Organists. She then pursued a career that would lead her to being the Medical Staff Coordinator at Hackley Hospital for 30 years. She was the Executive Director of the Muskegon County Medical Society, Muskegon County Dental Society and Lakeshore CME. Barbara was a member of First Congregational Church UCC. SURVIVORS Husband of 64 years, Irving "Bud"; daughters, Kathleen Joan (Dick) Morrison of Twin Lake, Donna Marie Hansen of Muskegon; grandchildren, Brandy Denny, Nicholas Morrison, Michael (Trisha) Hansen with a great granddaughter on the way; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, Gregory John Hansen; infant brother, Jacob; sisters, Helen DeGroot & Donna Vanderwall. SERVICE Tuesday, August 19, 2014, 12:00 PM and visitation starting at 11:00 AM at First Congregational Church UCC on Jefferson St. with Rev. Timothy D. Vander Haar officiating. Interment at Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL: American Lung Association.
