Barbara Jean Ballard, age 85, of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. She was born on May 6, 1939, in Holland, Michigan, to Donald and Margaret (Molengraf) Hartman.
Barbara grew up in Grand Haven, graduating in the summer of 1957. She married James Neal Ballard on January 7, 1960. Barbara was a dedicated long-time member of Hope Reformed Church. She had numerous jobs throughout her life, though she spoke most fondly of her time in the accounting department at Hayworth before eventually retiring to spend time with her family. Barbara enjoyed spending time reading, working on puzzles with family and friends, perusing local garage sales, and doing crafts with her granddaughters, whom were the light of her life. Her unfailingly kind and generous heart, along with her profound positivity and faith, touched the lives of her neighbors and congregation.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three children: Terri (Don) Curtiss of Spring Lake, Scott (Linda) Ballard of Grand Haven, and Darrell (Christine) Ballard of Spring Lake; three granddaughters: Breann Ballard (Kyle Tobin), Autumn Ballard (Zach Gargano),and Shelby Basham (Curt Janes ); sister: Donna Hartman; brothers: Donald (Judy) and Robert Hartman; sister in laws: Juanita Ballard and Nedra Holder as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbara is proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Roger Dennis Hartman; sister-in-law, Gail Hartman; former spouse of 27 years, James Neal Ballard; brother in law; Robert Ballard and nephews, Eric and Matthew Hartman.
In accordance with Barbara's wishes, no service will be held. She will be laid to rest at Lakeshore Cemetery in Grand Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association-Michigan Chapter.
