Arnold W. Berg, age 95, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at a local care facility. Mr. Berg was born in Grand Haven on January 11, 1913 to Fred W. and Elsie (Haase) Berg. He married the former Eileen Johnson on October 2, 1937. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2008. Mr. Berg was a life long resident of Grand Haven and was employed as a school teacher for thirty six years, many of which were in the Fruitport Public School System. He also worked for GTW Railroad for forty one years operating the swing bridge between Spring Lake and Ferrysburg. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He enjoyed walking and Bluegrass music. He is survived by three sons; Roger Berg of Grandville, Dan (Marsha) Berg of Norton Shores, and Armin Berg of Ceresco, Michigan; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Enid Hawkins of Bradenton, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred W. and Elsie (Haase) Berg, his wife Eileen (Johnson) Berg, and one grandchild, Scott Berg. The service for Mr. Berg will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Rev. John Carpenter officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the Church. Memorial contributions in Mr. Berg's name may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
