Mr. Anthony (Ned) Watters, age 62, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He was born on October 13, 1945 to Arthur and Florence (Miller) Watters in Fairview, Ohio. He worked as a boiler engineer for Kalamazoo State Hospital for many years before he retired as a civil servant for the State of Michigan. Ned was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spring Lake. He was a life member of Amvets Post #1988 of Baldwin, MI and a member of Great Lakes Seamen Local 5000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wasp, and he was a merchant marine from 1974 to1977. Ned is survived by his son, Patrick Watters of Grand Haven; 3 sisters, Julianne (Donald) Carney of West Olive, MI, Anne Watters of Grand Haven, and Laurie (Timothy) Jenkinson of Kentwood, MI; 3 brothers, Daniel Watters of Baldwin, MI, Greg (Renate) Watters of Grand Haven, and Brian (Cynthia) Watters of Carlton, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Therese; and brother, Michael Watters. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, October 28, at the Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Court Yard Unit.
