Mr. Alvaro Martinez, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2007 at 10:44 P.M. in his bed in the company of his wife and family as he wished. Mr. Martinez served in the US Army during WWII; he was in the Reconnaissance Company 644 tank destroyer Battalion and received a EAME Campaign Medal with five bronze Stars and a Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and two overseas service bars. He married the former Rosa Cervera on March 26, 1946 in Webb County, TX. He was Past President of the Latin American Club for many years. He is survived by his wife, Rosa; 3 sons, Alavaro Martinez Jr. of Texas, Peter (June) Martinez, and Carlos Mina Vasquez) Martinez, both of Muskegon, MI; 4 daughters, Aurora Martinez of Holland, MI, Gloria Martinez, Elisa Martinez, and Rita (Jose) Alvarado, all of Muskegon, MI; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Rosita Martinez, and 1 brother, Alejandro "Pete" Martinez. VISITATION: Thursday, 6-8 P.M., and 1 hour prior to service at the church. ROSARY: Thursday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
