Mrs. Alice Elaine Houghton, age 76, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007 in Whitehall. Mrs. Houghton was born April 24, 1931 to Otis and Blanche (Stitt) Burley in Muskegon. On September 2, 1967 she married Ivan J. "Buck" Houghton in Muskegon. She was a member of The Sanctuary in Holton. Alice enjoyed attending monthly gospel jamborees and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting for friends and family and for the missions in Mexico. She also volunteered at Christ the Rock Food and Clothing Pantry in Montague. Alice is SURVIVED by her husband of 40 years, Buck; 5 children, Cheri (Dave) VandenBosch of Twin Lake, Mike (Jaci) Mudge of Shelby, Carla (Gary) Hoffmeyer of Whitehall, Rock (Bonnie) Mudge of Conklin and Rob (Sherry) Houghton of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 brothers, Stanley Burley, Steven (Judy) Burley, David Burley and Nathan (Alberta) Burley; 4 sisters, Marlene Hudson, Joy (Al) Owens, Sarah Parsons and Cindy (Gary) Hunter. She was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Ranee Nicholes, Floyd Nicholes and Kristi Hoffmeyer; 2 sisters, Irene Perysian and Anita Lyons and 1 brother, Art Burley. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2007 at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 with her Pastor John Gardner officiating. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday. Memorial contributions to Alice's family would be appreciated.
