Alice Baker, age 98, went home to be with her Lord on May 9, 2014 in Bradenton, Florida. Alice was born in St. Charles, Illinois on February 20, 1916 the daughter of Fred and Ingeborg Nelson of Swedish decent. Alice was raised on a farm and enjoyed fishing and trapping muskrats and mink with her little brother, LeRoy "Bud" Nelson. After graduating from Elgin High School in 1934, and Chicago School of Cosmetology, Alice became a licensed beautician in Chicago. It was on the commute home on the Chicago, Elgin, and Aurora railroad that she met Enoch Baker. They were married in 1939 on her parents farm in Elgin. Enoch worked for Sears, eventually settling in Muskegon, Michigan where he sold Allstate insurance for over 25 years and where they were members of Forest Home Reformed Church. Alice and husband Enoch had a strong Christian faith and raised their family with faith and love. Alice prayed daily for her family, friends, missionaries and pastors. For over forty years Alice and Enoch kept a cottage at Maranatha Bible Conference in Muskegon, Michigan. She particularly enjoyed having her family visit and enjoy all the activities that Maranatha provided. After Enoch's death in 1986 Alice wintered at Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Florida. She loved working in her garden; playing dominoes; and serving in her church. SURVIVORS Alice had four children, Sally (Jim) Madison of Asheville, North Carolina, Dr. Robert (Karen) Baker of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Dr. James (Linda) Baker of Dowling, Michigan, and Dr. Karen (David) Kletzing of Batavia, Illinois, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Enoch Baker, brother Leroy Nelson, sisters Martha Kolling and Arlene Bonkoski.
