Mr. Alex "Pops" Albaitis, age 84 passed away August 11, 2007. He was born on July 23, 1923 in Peacock, Michigan to William and Antonini (Kaunis) Albaitis. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joe and Bill; four sisters, Mary, Nelly, Ann and Margie, and a son Jon. He is survived by three brothers, George, Frank and John; three sons, Allan (Isa) Albaitis, of Las Vegas, Nevada, William (Kim) Albaitis, of N. Ridgeville, Ohio, and Daniel (Marilyn) Albaitis, of Littleton, Colorado; a daughter, Catherine (Patrick Kassner) Woodring, of Muskegon, Michigan; eight grandchildren, John, Aris, Jason, Kate, Anne, Ben, Laurie and Zach; four great granddaughters, Angela, Alyssa, Morgan and Sophia, and his significant other, Cathy Loitz; special friends, Olga Markham and John Charnes; special nieces and nephews, Tony Daunis, Jim and Lanny Albaitis and Bertha Shank, Pat Pacola, and Mildred Cushman. Alex was proud of his service in World War II where he was a member of the 101st Airborne. If we asked, he shared many stories of his time spent in the Battle of the Bulge. However, he was especially proud of his children and cherished the time he was able to spend with them. We will all miss him dearly but are glad to know he has been reunited with his loved ones. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Don Rea VFW Post located at 1061 Witham Drive in North Muskegon. The family will meet with friends one hour before the service from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
