Alberta J. "Bert" Studier

Mrs. Alberta J. "Bert" Studier, age 84, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus. She was born December 12, 1923 in Akron, OH to Martin E. and Lelia F. (Lowry) Hocker and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. She received her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University in 1945. Bert retired in 1985, after a 40-year teaching career at Muskegon Heights Public Schools. She married Winfield R. Studier in Muskegon in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1973. Bert was an active member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church where she was the past vice-president of Lake Harbor UMC Women's Services. Bert was also past president of the Michigan Association of Retired Teachers and past president of the Muskegon Heights Education Association. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Scott Douglas (Anita) Studier of Hollywood, FL, James Grant (Sally) Studier of Muskegon and Nancy Ann (Bruce) Perham of Monroe, MI; 7 grandchildren, Adam, Alan, Greg, Molly, Amy, Nicholas, and Amanda; and sister-in-law, Betty (Studier) Dobberstein of Muskegon. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Erbes officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Mona View Cemetery. VISITATION with Bert's family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S.
